Avon Park, Fla. – After winning their first round matchup, the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team lost in their second match to end their run at back-to-back tournament championships.

The win put LSSC against the No. 2 seed, St. John's River State College in the final matchup on the first day of the tournament. The Vikings jumped out to an early lead in set one and held on for the 25-18 win. After falling behind early again, the Lakehawks mounted a furious comeback and got within one before SJRSC put the match away with a kill, 25-23. Lake-Sumter held a slim lead to begin set three, but were overpowered and fell, 25-21.

Hannah Yarbough tallied 22 digs, giving her 20+ digs nine times this season. Joalys Nunez led the team with nine points and was later named to the All-Tournament team.

The No. 1 seed, Gulf Coast State College would go on to beat St. John's on championship Sunday to claim their first Region 8/District P title. They will head to Nationals which begin in two weeks.
