Lakehawk Track & Field Completes Indoor Season in Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Track & Field) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Track & Field concluded the indoor track & field season at the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic on Saturday evening. The Lakehawks produced several top-10 finishes, personal records (PR), and new school records set.
Sophomore Jaden Miller capped her sophomore indoor season with standout performances in the long jump and triple jump.
Miller took second overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.73m, good for a PR. She also took 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.09m
Freshman Skyler Carter posted a personal best in the 60m of 8.27, ran 27.95 in the 200m, and placed 15th in the long jump at 5.13m. Jameria Sutton ran a PR of 8.00 in the 60m and clocked a 26.90 in the 200m.
Amaya Mitchell placed sixth overall in the high jump after clearing 1.52m.
On the track, sophomore standout Oksanna Smith took 15th in the 400m with a time of 59.01 and ran a PR in the 200m with a time of 25.70.
On the men's side, Elijah Palmer placed seventh in the 800m with a PR of 1:54.37. Noah Kaegi crossed the finish line not far behind at 1:57.71.
Sophomore Spencer Palmer took eighth in the mile with a PR time of 4:14.41.
In the long jump, Mark Fyffe placed second overall with a mark of 7.06m. Jeremiah Wiley posted a PR of 6.78m in the event for sixth.
Assistant Coach Gisele Oliveira noted that many of the Lakehawks are continuing to adjust to the demands of indoor racing. Learning how to navigate traffic and positioning indoors with be important moving forward.
Head Coach Cristy Snellgroves emphasized the importance of growth from meet to meet. There is a lot to learn from each race, and that experience helps the athletes grow.
The Lakehawks will now take the next two weeks to transition and prepare for the outdoor track & field season. The Lakehawks will kick off the season at the Tampa Spartans Open on Saturday, February 21.
