Lakehawk Softball Secures Four-Game Sweep of Polk State

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (Softball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball played Polk State College for a pair of home and away double headers and swept the competition, 4-0.
Thursday, Feb 5 – Double header at Lake-Sumter
For the day, the Lakehawks scored 28 runs on 26 hits. Emmy Lee, Emma Christensen, Baylie Goodwin, and Sarah Torres all had multiple hits in the game one win.
Kendall Rumer recorded the win on the mound improving to 3-0 on the season.
Goodwin and Torres added two more hits on the day, each with an RBI and one run scored. Mittie O'Brien added to the Lakehawk offensive charge with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Sydney Klein pitched a complete game improving to 3-2 on the season. She allowed three runs, only one earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts.
Tuesday, Feb. 10 – Double header at Polk State
On the road for their second double header with Polk State, the Lakehawks outscored the Eagles 14 runs to seven with 18 hits on the day.
The Lakehawks' only runs in game one came in the top of the fourth. With O'Brien and Christensen on base, a single to right field from Goodwin scored two.
Lee recorded her second win of the season with 5.0 innings pitched. After allowing a solo homerun in the bottom of the first, she shut out the Eagles for the rest of her outing.
Kaylin Smith recorded her second save with 2.0 innnings pitched. She had three strikeouts while allowing no runs.
In game two, the Lakehawks took a seven-run lead in the top of the first before Polk State's six run bottom half of the inning. Lake-Sumter added five more runs after the first holding the Eagles at six.
Christensen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Jamie Hegedus went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
With 6.2 innings pitched, Klein took the game two win. She had nine strikeouts to shut down the Eagle offense.
The Lakehawks improve to 11-3 on the season. Polk State moves to 3-7.
Lake-Sumer softball will go on the road this weekend to Tallahassee, Fla. The Lakehawks will play at Tallahassee State College on Saturday at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
