Lakehawk Softball Picks Up First Round Win over Pasco-Hernando
PALATKA, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) trailed Pasco-Hernando State College before they hit in the bottom of the first half inning in the opening round of the FCSAA DII Softball Championship. The bats would come to life for the Lakehawks and help lead them to an 11-2 victory.
Amy Bak took the circle to open up the tournament for LSSC. The sophomore gave up two runs on one hit in the top of the first inning and then proceeded to silence the Bobcats offense over the next four innings.
The Lakehawk offence took off with three hits in the first inning, three hits in the second, six hits in the third and one more in the fourth inning that led to 11 runs and a run-rule victory after five innings.
Sammi Thomas led the way going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI's. Thomas also came in clutch with a successful bases loaded, two-out squeeze bunt.
Macie Bourgholtzer, Emma Chisholm and Malayla Miller all added two hits of their own. Savannah Ellis added a base clearing double late in the game to collect three RBI's.
"These girls were an absolute wrecking crew with the bats today," said Head Coach, Jay Miller. "Whenever you hit .529 with runners in scoring position, it is usually a great day for your offense."
"Amy got it done in the circle while the defense made plays, including two double plays, both that ended innings."
Lake-Sumter (38-15) will take on top seeded St. John's River State College (48-9) on Friday in the winner's bracket. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
Friday's game will be available to watch free of charge here.
