NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Softball traveled to New Port Richey, Fla. on Friday for a double header at Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC). The Lakehawks and the Bobcats split the double header.
For the season, the Lakehawks took four of five meetings agaisnt the Bobcats.
Game 1 – LSSC 3, PHSC 0
The Lakehawks took a 2-0 lead after loading the bases in the top of the third inning. An error from the Bobcat infield allowed two runs to score.
In the top of the seventh, with two on base, Savannah Ellis took a base hit to right field to score Sammi Thomas from third extending the lead 3-0 to secure the win.
Amy Bak tossed a complete-game shutout for the win improving to 13-3 on the year. She allowed just four hits with two strikeouts.
Game 2 – PHSC 7, LSSC 5
The Lakehawks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before two three-run innings from the Bobcats brought the score 6-2 in the third inning. The Lakehawks chipped away at the lead, but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
Pasco-Hernando gave Lake-Sumter their first conference loss outside of St. Johns River State College this season.
Ellis, Kaitlyn Duquette, and Macie Bourgholtzer each had two hits.
On the mound in game two, Ellis recorded the loss as the starting pitcher moving to 11-6 on the year. She allowed six runs on five hits.
Duquette took the mound in the third and held the Bobcat offense to just one run on six hits for the remainder of the game.
Lake-Sumter improves to 36-14 on the year with a 21-5 record in conference play, maintaining the second spot in conference standing. The Bobcats improve to 29-23 with a 14-12 record for third in conference standing.
The Lakehawks will have their final Sun-Lakes Conference double header on Tuesday, April 22 agasint Florida Gateway College at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
