Bak, Christensen Named Region 8 Softball Players of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Softball) – Lakehawk Softball sweeps this week's awards with Amy Bak and Emma Christensen being named the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for their performances in the week of Mar. 31 – Apr. 6. Bak earns this honor for the third time in her career while Christensen earns it for the first time.
Amy Bak – Pitcher of the Week
Bak posted a 2-0 record with two appearances on the mound last week.
After picking up the win in relief in game one against Trinity Baptist, she tossed her seventh complete-game of the season against State College of Florida in conference play.
In 6.1 innings pitched, Bak allowed just two hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts while maintaining a 0.00 ERA for the week.
"Since the final stretch of the 2024 season, Amy has been an absolute workhorse for us in the circle. She carried her progression into her sophomore year and the results are amazing."
"10 wins on the season is no small feat and it is a testament to her dedication to getting better every single practice," said Head Coach Jay Miller.
For the season, Bak leads the Lakehawk pitching staff with 10 wins and a 1.98 ERA. She currently ranks second in the State of Florida for ERA, ties for fourth in wins, and ranks fifth in strikeouts with 60.
Emma Christensen – Player of the Week
Last week, Christensen helped the Lakehawks to four of their five wins, hitting .643 with six runs scored, two doubles, three homeruns, and eighth RBIs. In four games played, she recorded two or more hits, and had at least one RBI and one run scored.
Christensen went 7-for-11 in the Lakehawks' three-game series against State College of Florida. In game three, she went 3-for-4 with a homerun, four RBIs, and two runs scored.
"Emma struggled early this season and has made several adjustments in practice. This week was a result of 'trusting the process' and continuing to grow as a hitter."
"She is an absolute force to be reckoned with in our lineup," said Coach Miller.
For the season, Christensen maintains a .378 batting average, a .408 on-base percentage, and a .622 slugging percentage. She has 45 hits with 39 RBIs, 21 runs scored, and a team-high of eight homeruns.
This week, the Lakehawks continue Sun-Lakes Conference action with Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and St. Johns River State College (SJRSC). Lake-Sumter currently ranks second in conference standing with a 16-2 record, behind St. Johns' 17-1 record.
The Lakehawks will face off in a double header against FSCJ on Tuesday at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. followed by a double header at SJRSC on Friday at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
