Watkins Ties for First at 2026 Lakehawk Invite
CLERMONT, Fla. (Men's Golf) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) men's golf wrapped up their first tournament of the spring season on Tuesday afternoon. The team took fifth with sophomore Tripp Watkins finishing tied for first individually with a +3 two-round score.
Watkins made a historic charge for the individual lead over the final nine holes of round two, carding six birdies to chase down leader Rein Larson of Shelton State. His performance forced the tournament into a two-man playoff for the individual title.
The sudden death playoff stretched three extra holes, with Larson ultimately claiming the title after Watkins' tying putt slid by the cup by less than an inch.
As a team, the Lakehawks finished fifth, marking the team's third top-five finish. The Lakehawks will return to action on Feb. 23 for the Pioneers Invitaitonal at Cherokee National in Gaffney, S.C.
