Lakehawk Golf Concludes Fall Season at Jefferson State Invite
JASPER, Ala. (Men's Golf) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) men's golf team capped off the Jefferson State Invitational with an impressive final-round push on Tuesday afternoon, moving up two spots to finish 10th overall in a 16-team field.
In Monday's opening round of the tournament, brisk morning temperatures posed a tough challenge for a team of Florida natives. Despite the cold start, the Lakehawks showed grit finishing in 12th after round one.
Tripp Watkins led the charge, carding a 76 (+5) to finish the day tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard.
In round two, with near-perfect weather replacing Monday's frigid conditions, the Lakehawks found a rhythm early and delivered their best performance of the tournament. Sebastian Gonzalez led the way, firing a team-best 75 (+4) to help LSSC edge out Oxford Emory College by a single stroke.
"The team did a great job bouncing back after a challenging start. They stayed patient, took advantage of better scoring conditions, and closed strong to finish inside the top-10," shared Lakehawk Coaching Staff, Meredith Yaun and Seth Lyda.
This week's tournament wraps up the Lakehawks' fall schedule. The team will return in January 2026 to host the 2026 Lakehawk Invitational at Green Valley Country Club.
