Lakehawk Golf Records Program-First Win Over Eastern Florida
GROVELAND, Fla. (Golf) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) men's and women's golf teams hosted Eastern Florida State College of Friday afternoon for a one round match. The men's team recorded their first win as a program with Tripp Watkins also achieving his first career individual win.
The Lakehawks teed off at 9:30 a.m., the men foursomes followed by the women's threesomes.
Lead golfer Watkins carded a two-under score on the front nine, following with a on +1 on the back nine to post a career-best 71 (-1) for his first induvial win. He had six birdies with eight pars on the day.
Sebastian Gonzalez also had a good outing, carding a 73 (+1) to take third overall. Kylan Johnson 78 (+6) and Nate Williams 80 (+8) rounded out the Lakehawk scorecard taking fifth and seventh on the leaderboard to help the team to their first victory in just their second year in competition.
The women followed, coming in second to Eastern Florida.
Alexis Westbay was the Lakehawks' lowest score, carding a 93 (+21) for her best round this season.
Wies Bouwma and Lillian Dunn followed with a 96 (+24) and 97 (+25) respectively. Annabelle Roy completed the Lakehawk scorecard with a 102 (+30).
The Lakehawk women's team wrap up their first season as a team in Groveland. The Lakehawk men gear up for their final tournament of the fall season next weekend in Jasper, Ala. for the Jefferson State Invitational.
