Lakehawk Golf Takes Third at Atomic City Classic
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (Men's Golf) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) men's golf wrapped up a milestone performance at the Atomic City Classic this weekend, finishing third overall – the best finish in program history.
After posting an even par opening round on Monday, the Lakehawks battled through final round nerves to secure a top-three finish. Sophomore Tripp Watkins led the way with a career best two-over-par total across both days, placing sixth overall individually.
Sophomore Nate Williams also posted a career best, carding a 69 in the opening round to help set the tone for the team's strong showing.
The Lakehawks faced off with some familiar squads this tournament; several being opponents from the NJCAA Southeast District.
Walters State Community College, and, tournament champion, Roane State Community College, were the top two finishers at the 2025 NJCAA DII Southeast District Championship in April.
While the Lakehawks did finish fourth in their debut championship, they were significantly behind their opponents on the leaderboard as a team.
This week, Lake-Sumter and Walters State tied for third place with a +16 trailing Roane State's two-under performance, displaying growth for the seasoned Lakehawk squad ahead of the 2026 championship season.
The Lakehawks will stay local later in the week for a dual against DI opponent Eastern Florida State College. The Lakehawks and the Titans will meet at Green Valley Country Club on Friday, Oct. 24 for a 9:30 a.m. tee time.
