LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team clinched a spot in the 2026 FCSAA Division II Championship with a three-game sweep over South Florida State College. The Lakehawks are the first team to earn a spot in this year's tournament with a two-game lead in the top spot.
Corey Peters took game one of the series with 5.0 innings pitched improving to 4-3 on the mound. Ethon Tesmer and Wyatt Strawbridge contributed with 1.0 innings pitched each to hold the lead.
Alex Galan and Robert Kohler each with 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Galan added two RBIs.
On the mound in game two, Jack Johnson pitched 6.0 innings for his seventh win of the season. Ryan Kulikowski recorded his third save of the year with 1.2 shutout innings pitched.
Homeruns from Galan, Noah Morales, and Yelserth Ayala contributed to a late scoring run to win game two of the series.
On the road for game three, the Lakehawks secured the sweep with a 7-4 win over the Panthers.
Morales went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Mason Blackburn went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Starting pitcher Braylon Reynante recorded his third win of the season with 6.0 innings pitched. In Tesmer's second appearance of the series, he recorded his fourth save of the season with 3.0 innings pitched.
The Lakehawks currently hold a two-game lead over Pasco-Hernando. Lake-Sumter's final regular season series is against Palm Beach State College on Thursday and Friday at home.
Thursday's single game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and Friday's double header is set for 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. The Lakehawks look to take three games from the Panthers for a chance at the team's first Sun-Lakes Conference title and the No. 1 seed spot going into the FCSAA Championship in two weeks.
