NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Baseball wrapped up their second Sun-Lakes Conference series over the weekend against reigning national champion, top-ranked Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC). The Bobcats took the series after a close 11-inning series finale on Saturday afternoon at Pasco-Hernando.
Game 1 – PHSC 5, LSSC 2
The first game of the series was hosted on Friday afternoon at Mike Matulia Field. The Lakehawks and the Bobcats kept the score close but were cut short when bad weather arrived.
Brady Byers, Thomas Velardi, and Noah Morales all recorded two hits. Mason Blackburn and Morales each had one RBI.
Starting pitcher Jack Johnson took the loss with 5.0 innings pitched. He allowed four runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Game 2 – PHSC 11, LSSC 1
Back to the field on Saturday for a double header, the explosive Bobcat offense ended the game early in a fifth inning surge of nine runs.
Bruno Vazquez and Morales were responsible for the Lakehawks' only two hits.
Corey Peters recorded the loss on the mound with 4.0 innings pitched. He allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits.
Game 3 – PHSC 3, LSSC (11 innings)
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, their only run for the next nine innings.
The Lakehawks tied the game up in the fourth after a pair of singles from Morales and Harrison. Yelserth Ayala hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield to score Morales from third.
Into extra innings, Alex Galan led off the tenth with a single. A double from Byers gave the Lakehawks a 2-1 lead, their first lead of the series.
Pasco-Hernando answered back in the bottom of the tenth to tie the score back at 2-2. In the eleventh, the Bobcats hit a walk-off homerun to secure the 3-2 win.
Jacob James put in seven innings of work on the mound allowing just one run on two hits with five strikeouts. JD Aragort recorded the loss after a two-out homerun that walked off the game for the Bobcats in the eleventh.
The Lakehawks move to an 11-13 overall record, 1-5 in conference play. The Bobcats improve to 15-7 with a 5-1 conference record.
Lake-Sumter will be back in non-conference action on Tuesday at Eastern Florida State College at 3:00 p.m. Fans can access the Titans' livestream here.
