LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Baseball the 2026 Sun-Lakes Conference campaign with Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). The Lakehawks opened the series with one game at FSCJ before teams traveled back to Leesburg for the series finale double header on Saturday.
The Lakahawks took one of the three from the Manta Rays with a 12-3 win in the first game of Satuday's double header, but FSCJ took the series with two wins out of three.
Game 1 – FSCJ 7, LSSC 6
The Manta Rays led the Lakehawks 7-1 until the top of the ninth when Noah Morales started a rally with a solo homerun to lead off the inning.
Mason Blackburn followed with a double and Yelserth Ayala with a sacrifice bunt turned infield single. Robert Kohler followed with a bunt down the third base line to score Blackburn.
Bruno Vazques stepped up with a three-run homerun to bring the score to 6-7, but the Lakehawks were unable to tie score again.
Jack Johnson recorded the loss on the mound moving to 2-2 on the season. He pitched 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Game 2 – FSCJ 12, LSSC 4
The Lakehawks took a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the second starting with Brady Byers stepping up with a base-clearing double to score three runs. Thomas Velardi returned the favor with a double to score Byers.
Morales hit his second home run of the series to add two more runs to the Lakehawk lead.
The Manta Rays scored runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, but were unable to overcome the Lakehawk charge in game two.
Byers went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Morales went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored.
Starting pitcher Corey Peters recorded his third win of the season with six innings pitched. He held the Manta Rays to three runs on seven hits while fanning four.
Tyler Garcia closed out the seventh inning to help secure the Lakehawk win.
Game 3 – FSCJ 4, LSSC 2
The Manta Rays took the series in a close game three on Saturday afternoon.
Lake-Sumter and FSCJ tied 1-1 after the first inning before a three-run second inning gave the Manta Rays a 4-1 lead. The Lakehawks scored one run with a solo home run from Blackburn in the fourth, but were scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Alex Galan went 3-for-4 with one run scored. Blackburn went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Starter Jacob James recorded the loss on the mound with four innings pitched. He allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits with three strikeouts.
Ethon Tesmer closed the game with three shutout innings pitched.
The Lakehawks move to 10-10 overall with a 1-2 start to conference play. The Manta Rays improve to 10-7 with a 2-1 conference record.
