LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted Polk State College for a double header on Saturday afternoon. The Lakehawks and the Eagles split, Lake-Sumter taking a close game one 2-1.
Game 1 – Polk State 1, Lake-Sumter 2
Game one proved to be a pitching duel between both teams, each squad having just five hits in the matchup.
Lake-Sumter took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first after a solo homerun from Noah Morales.
Polk State tied the score up at 1-1 in the top of the third after a leadoff walk.
The Lakehawks took the win by walk-off in the bottom of the seventh after a leadoff walk from Robert Kohler. Bruno Vazquez joined Kohler with a hit by pitch.
A sacrifice bunt from Alex Galan moved Kohler and Vazquez into scoring position for Brady Byers to walk it off.
Starter Corey Peters pitched four quality innings for the Lakehawks allowing just one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Redshirt sophomore Ethon Tesmer was awarded the win on the mound with the final 3.0 innings pitched. He allowed just one hit with one strikeout while holding the Eagles at one.
Game 2 – Polk State 9, Lake-Sumter 6
The Lakehawks were held scoreless in game two until the bottom of the eighth. Kohler stepped up the eighth with a pinch hit grand slam, but it was not enough to overcome the Eagle lead.
Starter Jacob James recorded the loss with 4.0 innings pitched. He allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with one strikeout.
The Lakehawks move to 6-4 on the season. Next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10 against Seminole State at 3:00 p.m.
