Lakehawk Baseball Drops Offensive Battle to Daytona State
LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted Daytona State on Tuesday afternoon for a single non-conference game. In a back-and-forth battle, the Falcons defeated the Lakehawks 14-11.
Lake-Sumter took an early 1-0 lead over the Falcons in the bottom of the first. Daytona State answered back in the second with a grand slam to take the lead 4-1.
With two on in the bottom of the second, a triple by Alex Galan brought the Lakehawks within one of Falcons. Daytona State added one to the board in the third before the Lakehawks took the lead 6-5 in the bottom half of the frame.
The Falcons tacked on nine more runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, now leading 14-7.
The Lakehawks loaded the bases in the seventh. Ayala and Jacob James each drew walks to score two runs and Hayden Harrison scored on a wild pitch. The Lakehawks added one more run in the eighth, but were unable to manufacture enough to defeat the Falcons.
With the loss to Daytona State, the Lakehawks move to a 5-3 record.
Ayala went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, one walk, and one run scored. Brady Byers, Thomas Velardi, and Galan recorded two hits each.
Jonny Sosnowski recorded the loss on the mound with 1.0 innings pitched. He allowed four runs on four hits with one strikeout.
Ryan Kulikowski, Lincoln Gagne, JD Aragort, and Tyler Garcia each put in one inning on the mound and recorded two strikeouts each.
