Lakehawk Baseball Announces 2026 Schedule
The Lakahawks have a 56-game schedule, including 22 home dates.
LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team has released their schedule for the upcoming 2026 season. The Lakehawks have locked in a 56-game schedule, including 22 home dates.
Lake-Sumter finished the historical 2025 season with a 30-26 record and finished second in at the regional championship, a program-first appearance in the championship game. Additionally, the 2025 squad achieved the first 30-win season in program history.
The Lakehawks return eight sophomores for the 2026 season, including five experienced pitchers.
Righthanded pitcher Fabian Romero returns after a successful freshman season. In 2025, he posted a 6-4 record from the mound to lead the Lakehawk pitching staff in the "W" category.
Romero's highlight performance came in his final appearance of the season in the regional semifinal where he pitched 6.0 innings against South Florida State College (SFSC) to help the Lakehawks advance to the championship game.
Jack Johnson also returns with 75.2 innings pitched across 15 appearances as a freshman. He posted a 5-7 record while maintaining a 4.40 ERA.
The Lakehawks will open their 2026 campaign at home against St. Petersburg College at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23. Lake-Sumter will play non-conference games in January until late February to prepare for a highly competitive Sun-Lakes Conference regular season schedule.
LSSC will begin conference play at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) on Friday, Feb. 20 at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, Lake-Sumter and FSCJ will face off in Leesburg for a double header at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
The Sun-Lakes Conference consists of six teams: FSCJ, Palm Beach State College, Pasco-Hernando State College, SFSC, St. Johns River State College, and LSSC. In conference play, teams will play each opponent six times – each matchup having three home games and three away games for postseason placement.
After a 30-game conference slate, the top-four teams will compete in the 2026 Florida College System Activities Association (FSCAA) DII Baseball Championship from April 30 – May 3. The championship location iwill be hosted in Port Charlotte, Fla. at Port Charlotte Sports Park, the spring training facilty of the Tampa Bay Rays.
All Lakehawk home games will be played on Mike Matulia Field at J. Carlisle Rogers Stadium. The games will be livestreamed free of charge and can be accessed at Team 1 Sports: College.
