Merchant Named Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Baseball) – Lakehawk baseball's Andrew Merchant was named the Florida College System Athletic Association (FSCAA) / Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week for his performance in the week of Apr. 21-28. Merchant earns the honor for the second time in his career at Lake-Sumter.
Over the weekend, the Lakehawks played their final Sun-Lakes Conference series against Palm Beach State College. For the series, Merchant hit 6-for-12 with four runs scored, two doubles, one home run, six RBIs and one stolen base.
In a deciding game three, Merchant led the Lakehawks to a 16-9 victory going 4-for-6 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Saturday's win gave the Lakehawks their first postseason birth since 2018.
For the season, Merchant maintains a .333 batting average, .419 on-base percentage, and a .537 slugging percentage. In 147 at bats, he has 49 hits, 26 RBIs, 12 walks, and five homeruns.
This weekend, Merchant and the Lakehawks will take on the 2025 FCSAA DII Baseball Championship in New Port Richey, Fla. Lake-Sumter enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will play the top seeded Pasco-Hernando in the first round.
