LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – No. 14 Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Baseball swept No. 4 Pasco-Hernando State College over the weekend to move into the top spot in regular season conference standing. The Lakehawks opened the series on the road with a 13-12 win before returning to their home field for a pair of wins, 9-8 and 10-5.
In game one, Alex Galan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk. Brady Byers and Thomas Velardi also had three hits each.
Jack Johnson recorded the game one win with 6.2 innings pitched. Ethon Tesmer snagged his second save of the season with the final 1.1 innings pitched.
Game two was a back-and-forth battle until the seventh when the Lakehawks came up to bat trailing the Bobcats three runs.
With two on base, a pair of back-to-back singles from Hayden Harrison and Galan scored two runs. Mason Blackburn tied up the game with a sacrifice fly.
Yelserth Ayala walked off the game on a fielder's choice to first base to score Galan.
Austin MacCardle snagged the win on the mound after pitching a perfect seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts.
The Lakehawks had a six run third inning that secured the lead. Robert Kohler, Galan, Ayala each had two hits. Velardi, Galan, and Blackburn had two RBIs each.
Braylon Reynante recorded the game three win with 5.2 innings pitched. He improved to 2-1 on the season.
For the series, the Lakehawks hit five homeruns passing the 26-year team homerun record of 51. Previously set in the 2000, the team now has 52 homeruns with 11 games left of the regular season.
With three wins, the Lakehawks improved to 28-16 and 13-8 in conference play. The Bobcats move to 24-17, 12-9 in conference play.
The Lakehawks' next series is set for next weekend against St. Johns River State College. Game one will be on Friday at Lake-Sumter before the teams travel to Palatka, Fla. on Saturday for the double header and series conclusion.
