No. 22 Lakehawk Baseball Falls to Eagles
LEESBURG, FLA. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team hosted Polk State College on Tuesday afternoon for non-conference action. The Eagles defeated the Lakehawks 15-10.
Polk State took a 2-0 lead in the first.
In the bottom of the first, Eli Thumond and Tad Brooks reached base each with a base hit and Edwin Melendez drew a walk to load the bases. A balk from Polk State's pitcher allowed Thurmond to score the Lakehawks' first run.
The Eagles extended their lead in the third after a three-run homerun.
The Lakehawks loaded the bases again in the fourth. A single from Thumond scored two; the Lakehawks still trailed the Eagles by two.
Another four-run inning in the fifth from Polk State extended their lead 10-3.
Lake-Sumter loaded the bases once again in the bottom of the fifth. A sacrifice fly from Rivas scored their first run of the inning.
A grand slam from Tanner Reid brought the score to 10-8, the Lakehawks still trailing the Eagles.
Polk State put four more runs on the board in the seventh and one in the eighth to defeat the Lakehawks 15-10.
Thurmond went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, one run scored, and a walk. Reid went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk.
Freshmen Ethon Tesmer recorded the loss on the mound with 2.0 innings pitched, moving to 0-2 on the season. He allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.
With Tuesday's loss to Polk State the Lakehawks move to 25-18 on the season.
Lake-Sumter will be back in Sun-Lakes Conference action this weekend against St. Johns River State College. The Lakehawks will host the Vikings for game one on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
