LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball ended the weekend series with three losses to No. 1 Pasco-Hernando.
Game One – PHSC 18, Lake-Sumter 5
The Lakehawks hosted game one of the series on Friday afternoon. Capitalizing on several Lakehawk mistakes, the Bobcats took game one 18-5.
Pasco-Hernando outhit the Lakehawks 14-9 while the Lakehawks added four errors to the loss.
Tad Brooks went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Andrew Merchant went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Max Windham recorded the loss for game one of the series moving to 4-4 on the season. With 2.1 innings pitched, he allowed six runs, three earned, on two hits and five walks.
Game Two – PHSC 4, Lake-Sumter 2
The Lakehawks kept game two close after taking the lead for the first time in the third. Singles from Osjun Rivas, Eli Thurmond, and Matthew Dumas gave the Lakehawks a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats took the lead back 2-1 after a two-run homerun.
The Lakehawks tied the score back up in the top of the sixth after a leadoff single from Dumas. Dumas advanced to second for Edwin Melendez to score him with a base hit up the middle.
The Bobcats took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth 4-2 for the game two win.
Jack Johnson recorded the loss with 5.2 innings pitched moving to 5-4 on the season. He allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Game Three – PHSC 8, Lake-Sumter 6
Game three was another close back-and-forth game between the Lakehawks and the Bobcats.
Melendez led off the game with a two-run homerun for a 2-0 lead in the first inning. With a lead off walk and back-to-back doubles, the Bobcats tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the frame.
Dumas led off the top of the third with a double followed by a single from Merchant. With Dumas now on third, a double from Melendez scored one and put Merchant on third.
A sacrifice fly and an infield ground ball scored Merchant and Melendez giving the Lakehawks a 5-2 lead.
The Bobcats added one to the board in the fifth and sixth. Still trailing by two in the seventh, the Bobcatas put three more up taking the lead 6-5.
Pasco-Hernando extended their lead 8-5 in the eighth. The Lakehawks added one to the board in the ninth but were unable to come back from the defecit.
Starting pitcher Fabian Romero tossed 4.0 innings for the no decision in game three. He allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.
Christian Montes recorded the loss with 2.1 innings pitched. He allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits with three strikeouts.
With three losses to the Bobcats, the Lakehawks move to 25-17 on the season and a 10-11 record in conference play. The Lakehawks dropped to fourth in conference standing while the Bobcats remain in first with a 19-2 record.
The Lakehawks will be back in action in non-conference action on Tuesday against Polk State College at 3:00 p.m.
