Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College softball team has released its 2019 spring schedule just ahead of winter break.
Last season was one for the ages in softball. The 2018 team posted the first winning season since 1999 and set the record for most wins in a single season with 32. They are also coming off their best finish in the Mid-Florida Conference which resulted in a trip to the postseason.
Similar to last season, the Lakehawks will host Georgia Highlands to open the 2019 schedule Friday, January 25. The team will follow that double header up with a trip to the JUCO Classic in Clearwater the next day. As of now, LSSC is slated to take on Broward College and Indian River State College.
Daytona State will head to Leesburg Saturday, March 9 for the MFC opener. The Falcons and Lakehawks tied last year for third place in the conference and met in the first round of the tournament, with DSC coming out on top.
Sophomore Day will take place on the final home date of the regular season. Perennial top 20 team, College of Central Florida, will take on Lake-Sumter in Leesburg Saturday, April 13. Both programs ended 2018 in the top four of the conference and will look to be there again.
